How to Visit Exotic Destinations on a Budget
Traveling can be quite expensive depending on the destination you want to visit, but the thing is – you don’t need to be rich in order to travel, even to the most exotic destinations.
All you need to do is learn how to take advantage of all the offers out there and save money wherever you can.
So, if you have a couple of exotic places on your bucket list but don’t know how to afford them, here are a few suggestions.
There are plenty of jobs out there that include traveling.
For instance, you can find a job on a cruise ship where you can teach yoga or give dance classes, you can be a tour guide if you like sharing details about the places you visit, or you can be an au pair and become a part of your host family.
Many people discard the idea of working overseas because it seems difficult. However, most of these jobs don’t require any degree, so if you’re open-minded and persistent, you will surely find something that fits your needs and skills.
The idea is quite simple – you take care of somebody’s home while they are away.
It gives the owners peace of mind by knowing their home is in safe hands, and you get to spend time in a different country without paying for accommodation.
Plus, you get to enjoy all the comforts of a home – a kitchen to cook your own meals, cozy bed, plenty of space, and the perks of tech gadgets and devices.
Teach a skill
If you have a useful skill you can teach, why not do it abroad?
You can offer your knowledge in exchange for a free stay.
For example, you can teach a language or if you’re good at photography, you can take professional photos of different objects and events.
If you like writing, you can help people by writing content for their blogs or websites and earn some money along the way.
Just don’t be afraid to ask around – you’d be surprised how much people like to trade.
If you’re a student, perhaps the easiest way to go abroad is to become an exchange student at another university.
You can go anywhere you like, and most of the expenses, such as food and accommodation, are covered by exchange programs and thus, are more affordable.
If you’d like to go to Australia, for example, you can find comfortable and fully-furnished student accommodation in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
There are also many discounts for students on everything, from clothes to traveling tickets, so get informed on time and save money wherever you can.
If you have a meaningful reason for visiting a certain place, share your story and ask people to crowdfund your travel expenses.
If it’s touching enough and people can relate to it, they might help you gather the funds you need.
Just don’t forget to share some photos of the trip afterwards as a way of thanking all the people who donated for your trip.
To draw more attention, you could also come up with some rewards or bring gifts for the most generous contributors.
Mind the timing
It’s not just about how, but also when.
If you want to get the most affordable tickets to your exotic destination, go off season – the locals will be friendlier, and you’ll avoid the crowds.
You should also try to book either early or at the last minute, so you can get the best discounts.
If you’re flying to your destination, the first flight in the morning is usually the cheapest, but if you can’t make it, try to book a flight around lunchtime or dinnertime.
Also, avoid flying on Fridays and Sundays as flights during those days usually cost the most.
Traveling on a budget is not as difficult as it may sound if you know when to travel and how to make use of all the options available.
Think about what you can offer to the place you want to visit, cash in on your knowledge and skills, and before you know it, you’ll be relaxing at your dream destination.
