How to Make the Most of Your Summer Vacation While Staying at Home
Oh, how I miss summer as a kid. Running around my local area, exploring the ins and outs of every place I could find, reading books, seeing friends, hanging out with the family and just taking it easy in general. Unfortunately, as we get older, the novelty seems to wear away as more and more responsibilities get poured onto our shoulders. Thanks to these mounting errands and day-to-day tasks, even one day off seems like a pipe-dream. However, today, we’re going to explore several ways you can spend your day off not running errands, enabling you to make the most of your summer time days off.
Being a Tourist in Your Home Town
How much do you know about the history of your own town? Apart from when you were a child, when did you ever go on and see the attractions that the tourists come to see? Maybe you moved away from your home town for work, or for a change, but have you ever really explored the place you now live? Get outside and be a tourist in your own town. Follow the tourist routes, and you’ll never know what you’ll discover!
Reignite the Child Within You
If you’ve got access to a theme park, water park or even just any old grass park, go and be the child you once were. Whether you’re going out with friends or family members, get involved in local activities. At a basic level, take your dog down to your local park and play catch. Turn off your phone and spend some real quality time with your loved ones.
Learn Something New
Just because you’re not in school anymore, doesn’t mean you should stop learning. In fact, try learning something new every day! You could start a club, start practicing dance, take up yoga, start enjoying a new hobby, the world really is your oyster. Even websites, such as WikiHow, have a ton of small projects you can start in the comfort of your own home including anything from how to cook certain meals and recipes to how to make a fishing rod.
Take Up Writing
Maybe you’ve been toying with the idea of writing the next Harry Potter saga that will blow everybody’s mind or maybe you had an idea for a blockbuster hit that no-one has made yet? When you’ve got some time off, there’s better time to get started and give it your best shot. Even if you simply want to start writing poetry or some form of literature, writing is a great way to get creative for minimal costs, and it’s renowned for being a great way to relax. As you can see from my list above, a lot of the points I’ve made involved being outside. I say this because usually, we wake up in our houses, go to walk in our car, sit in an office all day and then return the same way after work while spending the night in our houses. We spend the majority of our time indoors so why not get outside and start breathing in some of that fresh air!
Do Something for The Local Community
As it’s summer holidays, the chances are that most children are off school and are currently sitting around their house getting bored. Additionally, it’s probably the case that the parents may not have the time, or the money, to take them a holiday or to go out every day of the week. If you’ve got some spare time, why not organise a local community event that pulls everyone together. You could organise a sport’s day, a neighbourhood picnic or even a huge water fight in your local town green space!
Try Out a New Food
Whether you’re a hands-on cook yourself or you’re heading out to that restaurant you’ve always seen by never tried, trying out a new cuisine is a simple yet fantastic way to open yourself up to a new experience. Head to a local restaurant that you’ve never been to before and order the craziest thing that you wouldn’t have normally picked in a million years. You never know what amazing things you could discover!
Do Absolutely Nothing
Despite trying to be productive and make the most of your time off, if you’ve been living an extremely busy life, the chances are that you’re exhausted, and you want nothing more than to put your feet up and relax. Don’t worry; I don’t blame you! Get yourself a cup of tea, a good book, magazine or movie and enjoy your time off!
