How To Plan Your Round The World Trip
This guide is for you but it is based on my own experiences of planning at Round The World Trip.
You can learn where and why I decided to go where on my Round The World quest.
As you can imagine, I am super happy about this….
Why Read This?
I am planning my own Round The World Trip, and hopefully with you reading this, it will give you much needed advise on how to plan yours!
I am going to be quitting my full time job to go around the world, from South America, to South Asia to Australia and who knows where else! This trip will be 6 months in total. So this is best part of 24 weeks.
I wanted to outline all the countries I can visit and then decide which ones to visit during my 6 months of travel!
Possible Countries To Visit
The World is one BIG place!
So let’s get into it…..
South America / Latin America
SO many places I could actually go in South America / Latin America! Which to choose? Where to go? How long to go in each?! So many questions!
So maybe lets rank them in order – Peru is number 1 due to awesome Machu Picchu!
I like the sound of how mental Brazil is. Bolivia has the salt flats so I think that is a must too. Then where? Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina? And for how long?
I think 6 weeks in this part of the world would be good. So I do not know if 3 or 4 countries that is enough time?! Maybe not. So maybe I need to have a rethink. 3 with 2 weeks in each, maybe the only option! Maybe I expend this part of the trip to 8 weeks?
I shall have to team any left over countries for my next trip….
South East Asia
The only problem I can see if that this place will be awesome, so many amazing countries to visit, experience and explore! It is making me excited just thinking about it!!
So again, with only limited time to explore, around 8 / 10 weeks I need to seriously think where I want to go, so it is time for another numbered list! This time, Thailand is at the top of my list….
Oh god, just as a feared, way TOO many places to visit here. I have already taken up 8 weeks of my total trip. Looking at my list, the top two are nailed on. Then Japan, I would LOVE it but it is far from the rest so I think I will have to drop Japan from the list. ..
I have heard good things about the rest. Malaysia would make sense as its just over the boarder from Thailand, and Singapore is there, which would be awesome and flying into there makes sense to take a look around.
So we have Burma and Laos. Laos if of the closest so would be the easiest. Maybe I decide when I am in Thailand….decisions, decisions!
Australia and South Pacific
This takes me onto my last leg of my trip, Australia and South Pacific!
- Australia (Obviously!)
- New Zealand
This one is easy. I do not think New Zealand (even though it does look delightful!) comes into my first Round The World Trip. So Australia, we can put a steady 4 weeks to explore you. I think I will need the majority off that time to explore the East Coast with my Camper Van, though that is for another article…
Possible Things To See In Each Country
Before I get on to the actual plan, my full World Trip, I need to take a look at the actual things I REALLY want to do. So, lets list them:
- Machu Picchu / Inca Trail (Peru)
- Nazca Lines (Peru)
- Amazon Jungle / a jungle (Many places)
- Salt Flats (Bolivia)
- Ayutthaya (Thailand)
- Easter Island (Near Chile)
- Phucket etc (Thailand)
- Iguassu Falls (Argentina)
- Christ The Redeemer (Brazil)
- Wild Rapids
- Dealth Road: Downhill Biking (Bolivia)
Grand 6 Month Round The World Plan
So I have decided where I am visiting on my epic trip. WOW. Not easy at all. So now it is time to take a look and see how much time I want to spend in each. This my friend is going to be HARD!
- Peru – 3 weeks
- Brazil – 2 week
- Bolivia – 2 week
- Colombia – 2 week
- Cambodia – 2 week
- Malaysia – 1 week
- Thailand – 4 weeks
- Vietnam – 2 weeks
- Laos / Burma – 1 week
- Australia – 4 week
- Fiji (Maybe, just MAYBE!) – 1 week
So I have ended up with 24 weeks. So JUST about right, give or take when I am around and which airport I will be flying in and out etc. Plenty of flying I think is major important if I want to visit all of these!
Now it is onto vaccines and buying clothing and bags!
