Camping With family Can Be Really Fun, Want To Know Why?
Camping with the family can be a lot of fun. It is also a popular summertime activity that appeals to a wide range of people from young couples out backpacking to families roasting marshmallows at campfires.
1) There are many ways to go camping
There are many types of camping that range from survivalist camping to glamping. Survivalist camping takes roughing it to the extreme as the campers hunt for their own food and otherwise fend for themselves. It is not recommended for novices or families with small children. At the other end of the spectrum is glamping which combines camping with the luxuries and services of a resort. Tent camping falls between these two extremes and can be combined with other activities like hiking or canoeing.
2) You will have your pick of campsites
There is no shortage of campsites. You can even pitch a tent in your backyard and let the kids sleep there for the night or weekend. This may be a good idea if they have never been camping before, for it will let you know if they’d enjoy a real camping trip or not. If your kids are ready for a trip, you can choose from privately run campsites or those managed by state parks. GocampingAmerica.com will help you find privately run campsites in the US and Canada. The different state government websites will have information about the campgrounds managed by state parks. Many campsites do require reservations, especially during their busy season.
3) Camping is relatively inexpensive
Summer vacations are generally not cheap. Hotels and restaurants are often expensive. By contrast, you can take your own food when you go camping. You can also borrow the tent and other gear from friends or rent it from outdoor goods stores like Eastern Mountain Sports or REI. Unless you know you will be doing a lot of camping in the future, there is no need or point in buying a lot of gear.
4) Camping is good for you
Camping provides many health benefits. One obvious benefit is increased exercise, even if it’s just a leisurely stroll along a well-marked trail. Being out in the sun can both improve mood and increase your Vitamin D intake. People also tend to sleep better while camping, for they are no longer exposed to a lot of artificial light that interferes with people’s biological clocks.
5) You’re in the great outdoors
One of the main benefits of camping is the campsite itself. Who doesn’t like the idea of sleeping under the stars and trying to identify constellations before nodding off? You can also go swimming in a nearby lake, try to identify all the birds or wildflowers in a given forest, or view spectacular phenomena like the Grand Canyon or Old Faithful. There are 12 campgrounds at Yellowstone Park, and several more just outside it, so you really can go camping and check out the geysers and thermal springs.
Camping thus provides a lot of fun options for families, and it can be tailored to suit the ages of the children. Many campsites will offer activities suitable for small children and/or be located near attractions designed for small children.
